How the points system is changed when applying for Australia PR visa with/without Spouse?
With changes made by the Australian Department of Home Affairs, the point system was modified when applying with a spouse for an Australian PR visa. Following are the changes that will be implemented from November 15, 2019:
  • More points for having a skilled partner or accepted accomplice. Maximum 10 points will be awarded. For this, the qualifications of the spouse should be get evaluated by a designated assessing body.
  • 15 points for candidates nominated by a State or Territory government or sponsored by a relative residence in local Australia.
  • 10 points if the candidate is having some STEM qualifications
  • 10 points for the candidate who isn't having a spouse.
  • 5 points for candidates with a spouse who is having English language proficiency.

Other than these, few changes were made in a spouse visa. For this along with the applicant, the sponsor is required to be assessed as well. A few modifications that were made in the Migration Act 1958 to build the framework for the sponsored family visa program to:
  • Separate sponsorship evaluation from the visa application process for family-sponsored visas
  • Require the permission of people as family sponsors before any related visa applications are made
  • Impose lawful commitments on people who are or were sponsored as family sponsors and provide penalties if those commitments are not fulfilled.
  • Encourage the sharing of personal data between parties recognized in a sponsorship application.
  • Approve the refusal of a sponsorship application and the cancellation or excepting of family sponsor in a certain condition.
  • Approve the guidelines to confirm details for, and in relation to, the activity of the sponsorship system; and make significant improvements.
Migration Amendment Regulations 2019((New Skilled Regional Visas) also introduced 3 new visas, Other than the point system changes:
• New Subclass 491 Skilled Work Regional (Provisional) Visa
• New Subclass 494 Skilled Employer-Sponsored Regional (Provisional) Visa
• New Subclass 191 Permanent Residence (Skilled Regional) Visa
